HEY WHAT'S UP DOG

HEY WHAT'S UP DOG

I ordered one thousand business cards a couple weeks back because they were on sale for a ridiculous, ridiculous price. Don’t ask how much. Three dollars.

The ones I had made are pretty terrible, as far as business-card-information goes. But I thought it would be neat to have little cards I could doodle on and hand out and maybe leave places. You know, guerrilla marketing or whatever. What I did not count on was that people would love them.

Seriously. I gave some to my friends and they are trading them, 3rd-grade playground style. One person hugged me. Another person gave it prime front-of-the-binder real estate. I gave it to one person in second period. At the end of the day, she came up to me and told me that she had kept in their pocket, taking it out periodically to remind her that she was, in fact, awesome.*

It’s also really helping me art-wise. There’s no sketching or planning involved, so it’s just straight pen-on-paper, a skill I need desperately to cultivate. I’m figuring out all kinds of stuff about hierarchy of lines. I draw very little that isn’t comics these days, so it provides an outlet for all the doodling and goofy fan art I’d like to draw but don’t have the time for.

In short: it’s really fun and I’m getting a really great response and that’s great.

*It’s entirely possible that all of these kids are just humoring me and my crazy stupid card project. I don’t want to think about it too hard.
